Bleach, rat poison, antifreeze, lilies, onions, chocolate and grapes are only a few of the household items that could be fatal for pets. Keeping toxic cleaners and medications out of pets’ reach is one way to avoid a potentially fatal poisoning, but even everyday foods and household plants can send cats and dogs on an emergency trip to the vet.
For example, feeding grapes to a dog can cause kidney failure, and Tylenol is a deadly dosage for cats.
Common indoor plants used for decorations lure cats as a fun and tasty toy. But digestion of an Easter lily or Mother-in-Law Plant can cause serious problems, even death. Some symptoms might include vomiting and diarrhea.
“A lot of people don’t realize what their dog or cat have eaten it until it’s way too late, Ellberg said.
