Can you give a pregnant dog the parvo medicine?
Question :
my dog is about 8 months old and she is pregnant is it safe to give her the parvo medicine?
answer :
NO!!! The labels on the vaccines say that you should only give vaccines to healthy animals and not to pregnant animals. Your 8 month old is too young to be having puppies in the first place. You don’t need to put additional stress on her immune system at this time. Please know that the duration of Immunity to the Parvo vaccine is 7 yrs so if she has had one in the past, she doesn’t need another. If she hasn’t had one, just keep her and the puppies away from other dogs and people until she is done nursing. The American Animal Hospital Association’s 2006 recommendations are at www.aahanet.org . It shows their recommendations and in the notes after, it shows the results that Dr. Ron Schultz achived in his studies, the 7 yrs. Dr. Schultz is professor of immunology and pathology at Wisconsin University. As the universities keep studying, they are starting to verify his findings. That is why current protocol by all 27 vet universities in the US is now to vaccine every 3 yrs
