My dog also has high levels of protein in her urine. She is an 8 yr old wire fox terrier. She has some incontinence issues which the vet felt was due to being spayed at an early age and not all that uncommon in female dogs. She is on Proin and has been doing well. Her protein level was 14. All of the other tests came back o.k. but the vet said this is an early sign of kidney disease and put her on Encard. This medication makes her feel horrible -I tried giving it to her in decreased amounts but after a few days, the result is the same. The medication makes her feel sick. My vet said there is nothing else we can give her so I have decided that the quality of her life is more important than living longer and feeling horrible. She is eating and drinking normally. Is there anything I can give her that is holistic or any other meds that would slow the process down?

I appreciate any suggestions.
