English bulldog Eye Proble

By pet-admin, March 24, 2009 12:03 am

pet’s breed: english bulldog
pet’s age: 4 years
pet’s sex:
female
previous treatment:

She’s had 2 entropian operations. She’s still having problems with her
eyes. she has been diagnosed with an ulcer in her cornea.

QUESTION:

I think she may have keratoconjuntivitis sicca because she still has green
stuff coming out her eye and a whitish film across her eyes. Can I use
corticosteroid eye drops? Whouldn’t this worsen the ulcer in the cornea?
What other treatment can I use?

Dear,

According to cornea ulcer it is contraindicated to use corticosteroids. Therefore you must visit a vet for definitive diagnosis-does she has an ulcer or does not.
Second step is to examine eye smear of presence of bacteria or fungi. Use antibiotic or antifungal topical therapy as drops 5×2 drops daily.
Use Ciclosporine ointment 3×1 and artificial tears 6×2 drops.
Apply this therapy for at least 7 days.

Best wishes,

Damjan
