QUESTION:
Ive just recently noticed my beloved companion “shadow” a 13 y/o
Mainecoon has sort of lost the sprung in his step and has been having trouble
getting to “higher ground” ala the coffee table which is not high at
all and other places he likes to rest. He doesnt appear to be in any pain and
he passed his last physical with flying colors so im wondering if this could
just be due to his age;
And because he’s getting older are there any
supplements/vitamins I can give him that might give him the little boost he
needs. Pilling him is not an option and I do have four other cats (all indoor)
so separating their food
is quite the challenge. Thanks for your expertise.
answer
Dear,
In accordance to your pet´s age it can be normal aging syndrome. But you should take it seriously. You must examine blood for aging diseases: kidneys, liver, diabetes, blood cells etc. Your vet should examine joints of the limbs and perform neurological tests. Also examine presence of lameness. If necessary take x-ray.
Supplements that you can give are vitamins, but periodically, especially E, A, C vitamins and B-complex.
Give Glycosamine and Chondroitine supplements for animals, according to body weight for protection of the cartilage.
