By pet-admin, August 1, 2008 10:55 pm

Flea infestation on animals can cause anemia especially to baby animals. It can also cause a spread of tapeworm if not treated properly. Tapeworms can even transfer from dogs to humans. So to get rid of the fleas, one must find a cheap flea treatment to ensure that all people can properly care for their pets without spending a lot of money.

There are many cheap flea treatments on the market, with the cheapest being simply soap and water. Some may say that they bathe their pets regularly with soap and water and it does not seem to work. Well, it really works when done correctly. You have to have lukewarm water with soap and wash your dogs thoroughly. The fatty acids in the soap will kill fleas immediately. If you pet is flea-infested at its maximum level, it may take a couple of baths to achieve a flea-free pet. Just be patient and take your time in washing your pet. Make sure that the soap and water seeps deeply into the fur and not just over the top layer.

Is Animal Testing Used in Your Dog Or Cat’s Flea and Tick Product?

By pet-admin, July 18, 2008 9:40 pm

You may not realize it, but inhumane animal testing is most likely used in the registration process of your dog or cat’s flea and tick control product.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires drug companies that manufacture and sell toxic chemical flea and tick pesticides to perform animal testing on helpless laboratory dogs and cats. The procedures involved will not only break your heart, but also send you searching for natural flea and tick treatments instead.

One common test is called the Lethal Dose 50 Percent (L50). This procedure exposes animals to a particular chemical in order to determine the dose necessary to kill 50 percent of the test population. Between 60 and 100 animals are required, and testing spans a time period from two weeks to several years.

We have all had, or will have flea problems, whether we want to admit it or not. Even if you don’t have pets, fleas can still haunt your home from time to time. Why call a “Pest Control” company when you can do it yourself, and cheaper. It really isn’t that difficult to do yourself.

First thing that must be understood is that killing the adult fleas that you can see, is like only treating the symptom only, not the cause. The real problem is waiting to be born.

Here is information about the adult Flea, its eggs, and the larva/pupa, they are all stages that need to be treated. This is why so many people can’t really get rid of fleas, they miss the real problems. However, most “Pest Control” Companies know this, but don’t tell you that they will have to come back and re-treat your home…again, and again. This is considered a “One Time Treatment”, so their free return treatment policy (if they have one) will not apply after 30 days, if at all.
