The way pet-owners are caring for their pets is rapidly changing. Many pet owners are choosing to go with natural pet care. These individuals are using medicines, treats and herbal supplements that are all natural. Therefore, why the change to natural pet items? Most owners seem to think that these items provide nutrients that will keep them healthier and happier over the long run.
We as pet-owners realize that pet manufacturers are concerned with making money and spending as little money as possible doing it. Pet food regulations are currently allowing these companies to have ingredients that most pet owners would never give their pets. If you knew what went in your favorite pet food you would probably be in shock.
Many of foods on the market today are made of sugars, preservatives and artificial flavorings. These ingredients are hard for pets to digest and are also low in protein. Animals and humans are no different when we are talking about eating healthy and nutritious food. Natural products can be used to guarantee your pet is receiving vegetables, meat, fruits, and grains that they need.
Pet Care and Animal Rescue
Animals rescue is a tough but rewarding hobby. I have been involved with Animal Rescue for approximately 8 years now. I have seen some very severe cases involving horses to cats and dogs. People don’t seem to realize that when you take on the responsibility of a pet, it should be a permanent thing. Meaning if you have to move, that’s fine, but find a home for your pet so the pet don’t go without care and love. So many people I have encountered didn’t realize just what happens to their pets that they place ads for in their local newspapers under the title of ‘FREE TO GOOD HOME”. People think that they can believe everything that the person tells them.
The average lifespan for most dogs is between eight and sixteen years. Some breeds age expectancy is less while other breeds normally have a longer lifespan. Once your dog becomes older it is time to take some preventative steps in order for them remain healthy, happy and active. Have your vet examine your pet annually or more often, if necessary. Veterinarians understand the different breed types and are familiar with problems you may encounter with your pet. They watch for this and make you aware of what to look for, if your dog is acting a little different.
By using preventative pet meds, you can decrease your pet’s chances of getting sick from disease carrying insect bites and reduce the risk of your dog developing heartworm disease. These medications are usually given monthly and can become very expensive, as time goes on. You need to make sure that you have the meds on hand, when it is time for the monthly dose, meaning a trip to the vet’s office for pickup. By purchasing your pet’s preventative medications online, you can cut costs and save precious time, while still keeping your pet happy and healthy.
The decision to bring a pet into your home for you and your family should not be taken lightly. A pet will become a member of your family and not just a fixture in your home. Pets are not meant to come and go, but to remain as part of your home for years to come. Unfortunately for some, pets are disposable items that will be moved if they are an inconvenience. This should be avoided since unstable homes can make unstable pets.
Aristotle was talking about holism when he said that “the whole is more than the sum of its parts”. Holistic and natural pet care means that you take into account the physical, mental, and emotional well being and health when treating or preventing disease in your pets. What this looks like in practice is that you do not just try to fix individual symptoms when treating disease but instead take into account any number of factors of physical, mental, and emotional nature; its like looking at the individual trees without losing sight of the forest. For example, a horse with ulcers doesn’t just need a “band-aid” for the ulcers themselves but perhaps needs to be fed more often (their gut constantly secrets acid because they were designed to forage most of the day) and/or needs to have its environment, stress load, show schedule, and training re-evaluated. The principle of holism also says, for example, that you cannot view – or treat – a horse’s hooves as being separate from its body. And your dog doesn’t just have skin problems – he may have food allergies, be under a lot of stress, etc.
The short and simple definition of holistic comes from Websters:
Is it time to bring your pet to the veterinarian for a checkup? Are you unsure of what to expect? It’s actually very important to understand what your veterinarian does to your pet during its annual exam. This helps you recognize when your pet is healthy and also if something is wrong. Here are the normal procedures that a veterinarian goes through on an annual physical exam:
Taking the temperature of your pet is one the most important parts of the physical exam. A dog or cat’s average temperature is somewhere between 101 and 102.5 degrees. Even if an animal seems healthy, a veterinarian can often tell that something is not right if the animal has a high temperature.

There are lots of people who simply do not realize how important caring for their dog’s teeth actually is. Like humans, as dogs age, the need for dental care increases. Therefore the best way to ensure proper dental health for your dog is to start while they are still very young.
You may have discovered that many dogs do not like their mouths being touched. It is important therefore for you, as a dog owner, to desensitize them to being handled like this at a very young age. The veterinarian is always going to need to examine your dog’s mouth and you do not want to have problems with this.
