None for this issue

QUESTION:

My pet is urinating while she sleeps. I heard if a dog is spayed too early
it
can cause this problem. She was spayed about 1 yr old. Is there any
medication
that can help her with this?

ANSWER:

Hello Natalie,

It is true that neutering may predispose female dogs to become midly
incontinent. The bladder sphincter is under partial control by
oestrogens (produced by the ovaries) and may become weaker when a dog
has been spayed.

However, It has nothing to do with the timing of the neutering. 1 year
old not being very young to be neutered anyway with most dogs being
done around 6 months of age.

Several medications do resolve that condition by supplying oestrogen
to the patient. Their brand names in the UK are urilin, propalin,
incurin.

This minor, unusual and easily treatable inconvenience far outweight
the problems associated with being an “entire” 11 years old.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes, Julien
