By pet-admin, February 25, 2009 10:27 pm

Fleas are responsible for a variety of problems associated both with our pets and with humans. They are responsible for spreading parasites to humans called tapeworms if the fleas are ingested. One of the most detrimental problems associated with fleas on your pets is what is known as flea allergic dermatitis (FAD). FAD is one of the three most common causes of allergies in pets. FAD has also been proven to be responsible for making other allergies worse such as food and inhaled allergies. Since pets are often allergic to the saliva of the fleas it only takes one bite to cause this reaction.

Getting rid of fleas can be a very difficult and expensive mission. The only way to properly get rid of a flea infestation in your home and on your pets is to understand the flea cycle. Using a multi module approach to killing the flea population will make sure you do not have any more flea problems.

Why Your Pet Should Go Organic

By pet-admin, October 17, 2008 11:21 pm

Pets serve a vital function in our everyday life as friends and companions. Caring for our pet should be a high priority in our lives. This includes regular checkups, maintaining their shots, and feeding them a healthy diet. As with humans, a first-rate diet is the most important element of your pets’ well-being.

Feeding your pet the healthiest diet entails providing the highest quality, organic diet available. Going organic may seem to be more costly but the benefits outweigh the cost.
Organic diets help your dog or cat throughout their lives. They live longer, stay healthier, and are much more energetic and spirited. The food you feed your pet has a direct connection to their wellness and longevity. Providing organic meals leads to shinier coats with fewer skin ailments, not as many bowel movements, less odor, and lower incidents of digestive problems. In the long term organic foods have been proven to prevent cancer, muscle degeneration, obesity, coronary disease, arteriosclerosis, lung and heart diseases and premature aging. An organic diet can also lessen the likelihood of diabetes. A high quality healthy diet can also boost your pet”s immune system saving you costly veterinarian bills.

Your Pet and Glucosamine

By pet-admin, September 25, 2008 10:45 pm

Uri acid is part of red meat and this meat is found in a lot of dog foods. The dilemma is that too much uric acid is a cause of arthritis. Glucosamine helps reduce the inflammation. Cartilage and synovial fluid have glucosamine in them; cartilage is part of the connective tissue and synovial fluid is a lubricant for the joints.

Glucosamine has been shown to help alleviate these health problems: rheumatoid and osteoarthritus, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, inflammation, bursitis, and disc degeneration. This nutrient will benefit your dog by reducing the inflammation in his discs, joints, and his siatic nerve. A common health ailment that dogs develop and more so large dogs is hip dysplasia; that means that there is a ball and socket situation. In other words, the joint moves out of alignment. This ailment can begin in a young dog and there won’t be any symptoms like pain or limping until later. The good news is that glucosamine supplements can help this problem. Cats also find glucosamine beneficial if they develop arthritis, which is less common for them, but if a cat has had trauma to a joint it can develop.

This supplement can make the difference between a dog or cat suffering from inflamed joints and hobbling around and one that can move freely and whose pain and inflammation have been reduced. Dogs that are jumpers put more strain on their joints and are more likely to develop joint problems. Supplementing while your dog is younger can help to reduce the incidence of joint aliments.
