How Prescriptions Work

Your vet writes the prescription. We do the rest — reviewed, compounded, and shipped in 1–3 days.

Filling a pet prescription online should feel like a calm handoff, not a leap of faith. Every script is read by a licensed DVM, checked by a pharmacist, and delivered from our Austin, Texas facility — same Vet-VIPPS-accredited process used by 2,400+ independent clinics.

Free same-day vet review on every order · No subscription required to start · Refills scheduled when you're ready

Why pet parents and 2,400+ clinics trust us with the prescription.

Four credentials that matter when a medicine — not a toy — is heading to your door.

  • Vet-VIPPS accredited since 2011

Independently audited by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy — accreditation #VP-2009-0447, held continuously for 13+ years.

  • 47 DVMs on staff, not contractors

Every prescription is read by an in-house veterinarian before fulfillment, with a median review time of 2 hours 14 minutes.

  • Custom compounding, in-house

A 9,200 sq. ft. licensed compounding lab makes 680 custom-flavored liquids, transdermal gels, and small-breed doses other pharmacies won't.

  • Validated cold-chain shipping

Refrigerated insulin and biologics ship in temperature-controlled packaging — included free on orders over $39.

The Fulfillment Flow

From your vet's signed script to your doorstep — five clear steps.

Here's the exact path every prescription takes. The same flow used by 71,000 orders a month, with a 99.4% prescription accuracy rate over the trailing twelve months.

  1. 01

    Your vet sends the script

Your veterinarian faxes, calls, or e-prescribes directly to our Austin pharmacy. Any licensed U.S. vet can send a script — they don't need an account with us. Most clinics have already partnered with us for clinic-direct wholesale ordering.

Average arrival: under 30 minutes for e-prescribes · same business day for fax

  2. 02

A certified vet tech confirms the details

A 24/7 veterinary technician team checks dosing, drug interactions, and your pet's profile. If anything needs clarification — a refill count, a dosage change — they call your vet's office directly. Average response time across the team: 4 minutes 38 seconds.

You're notified: by email and SMS at every stage

  3. 03

An in-house DVM reviews the prescription

Before a single label prints, a licensed veterinarian on our 47-DVM staff reviews the script for clinical appropriateness. This same-day review is free on every order — it's not a surcharge, it's the standard.

Median DVM review time: 2 hours 14 minutes

  4. 04

A 19-pharmacist team fills and compounds

Our pharmacists dispense from a 12,400-SKU catalog and custom-compound 680 specialized formulations — flavored liquids for cats who refuse pills, transdermal gels for thyroid support, small-breed doses that aren't commercially available. All from our licensed 38,000 sq. ft. facility.

Note: Compounded formulations are not FDA-approved.

  5. 05

    Cold-chain shipping, 1–3 day delivery

Refrigerated items ship in validated temperature-controlled packaging. Free shipping on orders over $39. Most U.S. addresses receive their order in 1–3 business days.

Specialty Capabilities

When a standard pill won't do — compounding, flavors, and cold-chain biologics.

Some prescriptions arrive as a precise, off-the-shelf dose. Many don't — especially for cats, small dogs, and pets on long-term chronic care. Two capabilities set our pharmacy apart from the big-box options, and they're the ones chronic-care buyers ask about most.

Custom compounding, made in Austin

Our 9,200 sq. ft. compounding lab, opened in 2019 and staffed by 19 compounding pharmacists, prepares 680 specialized formulations that commercial manufacturers don't make. We turn tablets into chicken- or fish-flavored liquids for cats who refuse pills. We prepare transdermal gels that absorb through the ear pinna for pets whose owners can't pill reliably. We split doses precisely for animals under ten pounds. Every formulation is prepared under USP <795> and <797> standards, in a cleanroom environment, by pharmacists who do this all day — not as a side service.

Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. They're prepared specifically for your pet's prescription by a licensed pharmacist on a case-by-case basis.

Cold-chain shipping for refrigerated biologics

Insulin, some oncology support medications, and a growing class of biologic therapies must stay between 2°C and 8°C from the moment they leave the dispensing counter to the moment they reach your door. We ship those items in validated temperature-controlled packaging with phase-change coolant and a tamper-evident seal. Temperature excursion monitoring is built into every cold-chain shipment, and our team is notified if a package strays outside the range — before it lands on your porch.

"The question we get most often from a clinic partner isn't 'can you ship it cheaper' — it's 'can you keep a 4-pound diabetic cat's insulin at the right temperature for three days across a Texas August.' The answer is yes, and we have the monitoring to prove it."

What we don't do

We don't diagnose, treat, or replace your veterinarian. Every prescription we fill originates with the vet who knows your animal. We don't promise overnight delivery to Alaska or Hawaii without flagging carrier and weather variability. And we don't claim compounded medications are FDA-approved — because by definition, they aren't.

By the Numbers

Sixteen years and 6.8 million prescriptions later.

The metrics we report internally to our board — and that we're willing to be held to.

  • 6.8M prescriptions filled since founding
  • 99.4% prescription accuracy, trailing 12 months
  • 2h 14m median in-house DVM review time
  • 612K+ active accounts across all 50 states

The Common Objection

Your vet doesn't have to "use" us. They just send us the script — we do the rest.

This is the single biggest hesitation we hear from first-time buyers: "My vet has never mentioned you." That's completely normal. Most pets visit one local clinic that cares for maybe a dozen prescriptions a day. We fill tens of thousands a week. The two practices have simply never had a reason to know each other — until now.

Any licensed U.S. veterinarian can send us a prescription by fax, by phone, or through a standard e-prescribing system. There is no onboarding, no contract, and no clinic-side software install. Your vet writes the script the same way they always have; we handle the rest.

How the script actually gets to us

  • E-prescribe — your vet's practice-management system sends it digitally; we receive it in minutes.
  • Fax — to our secure pharmacy line at the Austin facility; typical turnaround under an hour during business hours.
  • Phone — your vet's office calls our pharmacist line directly; we transcribe and verify against the medical record they provide.
  • Mail-in original — for compounded or controlled substances that require an original signature; we'll cover the postage if needed.

If your vet has questions, hand them this

We maintain a clinic-facing page that walks a veterinary team through authorization, contact protocols, refill requests, and clinic-direct wholesale ordering for their own in-clinic use. It includes our pharmacist-on-call number and a one-page PDF they can hand to their practice manager.

Or call our 24/7 vet tech line at +1 (512) 555-0184 — they'll walk you through sending the script.
